Carriage House

O4

The client’s wish
A former carriage house belonging to an estate once designed by Zocher, the creative mind behind the Vondelpark and the former stock exchange building in Amsterdam. Our client's wish was to transform this carriage coach house into a family home in which pets play a key role.

Realization by Kabaz
The total concept. From the design of the entire house, including the lighting plan and furniture customization, to the construction supervision and the delivery of loose furniture. All including styling.

At the front and rear, the conservatories were restored to the original style by the first architect who, among other things, designed the seaside hotel in Domburg. Large glass windows are placed behind the garage doors for a large amount of natural daylight. The living and dining room are now located where carriages used to drive in. In terms of details, the fireplace in the living room is visible on both sides, and the television is stylishly hidden.

Moreover, a castle fireplace and stove were installed in the kitchen, embracing the original style. While in the utility room, the horse feeder has remained intact. The attic where hay bales were originally stored has been enlarged, and a beautiful roof light has been installed.

Sophisticated details

  • National monument largely damaged and destroyed by a fire
  • Transformation into a residential house, preserving the characteristics of the carriage house
  • Saddlebag holders have been retained, just placed slightly higher on the walls for a better match to the current housing vision
